about.
Throughout the duration of this unit, I delved into the works of artists such as Earnest Born, Adolf Loos and Tsutomu Nihei, all which heavily used linework with both dark pens and pencils. As I progressed, I decided to focus on the manga artworks of Tsutomu Nihei and incorporated the techniques and characteristics of his drawings into my artistic exploration.
My fascination with Nihei’s work initially started because of the aesthetic and style of his drawings, which prominently featured cross-hatching and pronounced contrast. However, my true inspiration to delve deeper into his work emerged from my engagement with the underlying concepts of his creation. It made me realise at an early stage of my career that the realm of architecture extends beyond the built environemnt, but can be freely expressed in books, games, films, and perhaps even more innovative platforms that lie ahead in the future.
